Randy has consistently opposed the “third rail”

Misinformation and misperception about Stanford “Randy” Tack’s involvement with the “third rail” issue in 2017 have been disseminated by parties in opposition to his Mayoral candidacy. Here are the facts.

Does Randy Tack oppose a “third rail” (holding track) in West Lake Forest?

Yes. Randy is opposed to a holding track in Lake Forest. He has never voted in support of a holding track, or the so-called “third rail.” Any claim he has supported it , or voted for it, is false.

The City Council’s current position on this remains that which Randy supported in 2017 as Alderman for Ward 3. Mayor Pandaleon continues to oppose the holding track project. Randy’s position as Mayor would be to implement the directives of the City Council which is to actively oppose any holding track within Lake Forest.

What will Randy commit to doing as Mayor to oppose a holding track in Lake Forest?

If an actual proposal to build a holding track in Lake Forest with a funding source emerges, the City Council will actively engage and oppose this and Randy as Mayor would aggressively pursue the Council’s directives.

So what did Randy vote for on City Council?

When the issue first emerged in 2017, the City Council, including Randy as Ward 3 Alderman, undertook legal analysis and agreed on:

  • opposing the holding track,

  • engaging appropriate government representatives to present the city’s case,

  • opposing funding for hiring outside consultants and pursuing legal activity in the matter.

This policy has proven to be the correct and fiscally sound approach, as there is no holding track project in progress 5 years later.

What if things are different in the future and the holding track becomes a threat?

If the railroads involved decide to proceed and obtain funding to build a holding track, that would be the time to weigh in with the federal agencies involved via our congressmen, senators, and perhaps a joint consultant with other potentially impacted communities. This would again be a policy decision of the City Council administered by the Mayor and City Manager.

Randy as Mayor would:

  • aggressively pursue the mandate of the City Council

  • ensure all City expenditures on the matter would be completely transparent and reassessed on a regular basis to ensure funds are spent wisely and effectively
