I strongly endorse Randy Tack to be the next Mayor of Lake Forest.

He is the candidate of the Lake Forest Caucus selection process that for nearly 90 years has provided candidates for the boards, commissions, City Council and Mayor that, along with City staff, comprise Lake Forest municipal government. The product of this critical peer selection process is one of the very best small towns in which to live in the United States. To continue the many qualities built over many decades we all enjoy in Lake Forest, please vote for Randy Tack.

I have been engaged in Lake Forest government since the mid-1980s on numerous boards, commissions, City Council, and as Mayor. While being asked to be Mayor by the women and men of the Caucus is a substantial honor, my long prior service in City Government also informed me of the singular responsibilities and strong, knowledgeable leadership needed to assume executive authority of an institution that affects so many lives every day. For example, every Mayor wakes up in the morning thinking about public safety on their watch, and goes to bed at night thinking the same. And, during each day as Mayor, one cannot be trying to please people as a first principle, but to do the listening, non-partisan outreach, and long, often tedious, homework on issues, to determine the right path in the very best long-term interests of the Lake Forest community. This hard work, repeatedly demonstrated by Caucus provided citizen volunteers, working in selfless common purpose, has kept the City financially sound, and a top-notch community in which to live, work and raise one’s family. Until now, in all my years as a citizen volunteer in City government, I have never heard a person say, “This is what I want”, or “I am the right person for this…”

To be asked by one’s elected peers, through the deliberate, time-tested, volunteer Caucus selection process to serve in a position in Lake Forest City Government is the highest community praise one can receive. Randy Tack has earned the nomination to serve as Mayor of Lake Forest by demonstrated understanding of the workings of City government, ready willingness to listen and question, and in leading the way for many improvements and efficiencies in our local government. When I was Mayor, Randy Tack sat at my left giving me regular opportunity to observe that he always read the materials, did his homework, had formed astute questions and views on the matter at hand, and that he communicated these in short declarative sentences, much appreciated by all in attendance. I have never known Randy to propose a policy direction that a clear majority did not think was in the long-term interests of Lake Forest.

In this election season, I ask you to carefully consider the specific achievements of Randy Tack on City Council and on various Council committees that have so positively impacted the City’s finances, keeping Lake Forest property taxes quite low, and sustaining the high quality planning and zoning, and robust historic preservation that are the hallmarks of the pleasant town in which to live.

Please vote for Randy Tack to preserve the many qualities of the community we all love.
