Volunteerism and people putting City over self has been at the heart of what makes Lake Forest special ever since its founding in 1861.

Nothing embodies this principle of putting City over self better than the tireless work of the men and women volunteers of our Lake Forest Caucus Committee.

Since 1935, this amazing, foundational asset in our community has been recruiting, vetting, and selecting the best people to volunteer on our nearly 20 local boards and commissions, our school boards, our City Council, and as our Mayor. Our Lake Forest Caucus system is largely responsible for what we all love about Lake Forest today.

If you walk up to the second floor of our City Hall building, you will also see a plaque for The Lawrence R. Temple, Distinguished Public Service Award. This award honors a living volunteer for distinguished public service to our local government and who embodies the selfless principle of putting City over self in public service. There have only been 10 award winners since 2001.

There are no politicians listed on the plaque, no one grasping to be Mayor, and no one who actively sought out and campaigned for the award for themselves. The award finds those in our community who have consistently put City over self, who reflect the values that make Lake Forest special and that we should look for in our future City leaders.

Please let City over self be your guide when you vote for our next Mayor, either by mail in ballot, early voting at City Hall from March 20th to April 1st, or on election day, April 4th, at your normal polling location.
